Our Journey So Far
EPBD Written Into EU Law & Adopted By The UK
For all air conditioning systems first put into service on or after 1 January 2008, the first TM44 inspection must have taken place within five years of the date when the system was first put into service.
Other air conditioning systems, where the effective rated output is more than 250kW the first inspection must have taken place by 4 January 2009. Finally, older air conditioning systems, where the effective rated output is more than 12kW the first inspection must have taken place by 4 January 2011.
January, 2008
CIBSE TM44 Inspection Was introduced
The CIBSE TM44 inspection guide for air-conditioning systems as it is today was written. The recast Directive, adopted officially in May 2010, replaced the original Directive from 1 February 2012 and was implemented in steps from January 2013. The main amendments included;
- The TM44 inspection guidance was now deemed appropriate for server rooms.
- Non cooled air handling units must now be taken into account if they supply ambient air to areas cooled by air conditioning equipment.
- Lodgement of reports on the government register is made compulsory and part of the legal requirement for TM44 inspection compliance.

To this day we are huge advocates of the ‘Enhanced TM44 Inspection’.

Find Out MoreOctober, 2022TM44 Inspections: A Brief History
KTIC strongly believe that TM44 inspections are an important part of energy efficiency and compliance in the UK. An air conditioning inspection forms part of a comprehensive assessment of the energy performance of buildings, which, when carried out by a competent and qualified energy assessor, can identify areas where energy efficiency can be improved.
We decided to get involved with air conditioning inspections because we wanted to offer a better way of working. Our philosophy is to bring added value to our customers, not just for complying with EPBD, but to go beyond that and make significant energy savings.
Exploring Additional Benefits and Streamlining Your Energy Assessments
Keeping in line with our core principles of helping businesses save time, energy and money through a value-added service, KTIC started looking at ways to make Energy Assessments better.
We started working closely with Building Managers and FM companies to deliver the kind of service they needed and built upon that standard. We understand that the success of your project depends on the efficiency of your workflow. That’s why we have designed our internal processes and systems to be as efficient and flexible as possible whilst being able to offer bespoke solutions to those who need them.
